There was once a frail old man who lived together with his son, daughter-in-law and 4-year-old grandson. Mealtimes used to be a challenge because the old man would often accidentally break the younger couple’s plates and cups. Eventually, the couple got tired of the situation and decided to set up a separate table where the old man could have meals on his own. But then, the couple would look up from their beautifully-set table and notice the old man at his table, in tears, eating from the wooden plate and drinking from the wooden cup they had given him.

Some weeks later, the old man’s son saw his four-year-old playing a pretend game with some wood scraps. Curiosity piqued, he asked the little boy what he was doing. His son said, "I am making wooden plates and cups just like grandpa’s, for you and mama to use when you grow old." Deeply shamed by his son’s innocent words, the man asked his father to return to their table and continue sharing his meals with the rest of the family.

This story shows that the reality of growing old can often be painful. Not all stories are the same--and not all end up quite so idyllically. People get so caught up in their daily lives that they neglect the needs of the elderly members of their family, even without meaning to. Then, too, there’s the fact that we all like our independence, and growing old doesn’t make it any easier to let go of that independence.

Senior citizens do not want to feel as though they are a burden to the rest of the family, and this is the reason why many choose to continue living on their own and hire a qualified caregiver to help them with their daily needs. Like many others who opt for assisted living Atlanta residents find it possible to go about their regular routines without burdening family members or posing a risk to themselves or to others.

The elderly do not want to feel as though they’ve outlived their usefulness, and constantly need to reaffirm that they are important in the lives of others. One of the benefits of elder care Atlanta retirees enjoy is companionship: Caregivers not only look out for the physical well-being of their elderly wards, they also provide emotional stability through their companionship.

For anyone who needs home care Atlanta has a number of excellent providers to choose from. Whether your elderly loved ones choose to live on their own or with members of the family, these providers can give you peace of mind--and give your loved ones love, care and companionship at a time when they most need it.
